Arsenal 1 - Bolton Wanderers 1

28 January 2007

Arsenal’s bogey team in recent years Bolton Wanderers held the Gunners to a draw in their new home. Bolton came close to putting an end to Arsenal’s unbeaten record in their new home The Emirates after a goal by Kevin Nolan in the first five minutes of the restart of the second half.

The Gunners pulled the cat out of the fire after a headed goal by Kolo Toure off a flick on from Bolton midfielder Gary Speed in a desperate attempt to clear a Cesc Fabregas freekick.

Bolton beat Arsenal in the same stage (4th stage) of the same competition last year and looked good to repeat this feat. Wenger uncaged “The Beast” Julio Baptista in the second half of the game and the Brazilian may very well have helped The Gunners to a win after being unleashed on the Bolton midfield after coming close with a header.

Arsenal are going to the Reebok for a replay in the FA Cup and that is not what the team really needs now with the Champions League recommencing in February.
