Arsenal’s US venture

9 February 2007

Arsenal is trying to carve a place in the American market by introducing its brand there. Arsenal have announced its latest business partnership which is with Major League Soccer club Colorado Rapids.

This is not a take over or a buy out like those which have happened in Chelsea which was bought by Russian Billionaire Abramovich, Manchester United which was bought by the Glaziers, or like that of Aston Villa.

You cannot also compare this to the takeover of teams like Liverpool or Portsmouth. This is purely the transfer of coaching ideas, the development of a soccer centre of excellence in Colorado and the launching of The Arsenal Cup which will be a Cup competition open to all teams in the United States.

Arsenal has these sort of ties with Belgian side Beveren and also have an academy in Ivory Coast.

Colorado Rapids will be in London sometime in the near future to use Arsenal’s facilities in The Emirates Stadium for six days.
