Arsene Wenger faces FA probe
2 March 2007The FA has asked Arsene Wenger to explain his accusations that the linesman in our Carling Cup defeat is a liar. The linesman’s match report according to Wenger claims that Emmanuel Adebayor punched Frank Lampard. The FA has denied this as what the report says.
They say that the linesman’s report accuses Adebayor of shoving into Carvalho and aiming a punch at Frank Lampard (note that he is not accused of throwing a punch by the linesman). Well let the linesman and the referee show me any player who was not shoving, swearing and aiming punches, kicks and murderous looks at their opponents during the fracas which broke out in that match and I will keep my trap shut. as I said earlier, the FA is very fond of supporting it’s referees.
I do not remember any instance where the FA has blamed a referee or even made a referee answer a probe about any match which they handled wrongly. Surely it is not possible for all the referees to always be right. After all they are only human like the players, managers and technical team. The referees are like demi-gods in a game.
They do not seem to realize that the ramifications of their decisions or indecisions go beyond each particular game. How can the referee say he was looking at the players upper bodies and not the football. Will the FA not probe this referee who was busy looking at other things and not concentrating on the task in hand?
Wenger faces a touchline ban if he fails to convince the FA that his accusations are justified
