Manuel Almunia

29 January 2007

Arsenal’s reserve goalkeeper Manuel Almunia is making a big impression in the team. He features mostly in Carling Cup and FA cup clashes and hes heroics in these competitions gives the Gunners a real boost because they know thatĀ  that there are capable hands to stand between the goalposts if anything does happen to first choice goalkeeper Jens Lehman.

The Spanish second choice goalkeeper kept Arsenal in the game in their FA Cup 4th round match against Bolton Wanderers when he stopped Kevin Nolan from scoring what looked like a sure goal……. With the match at 1-0 in favour of Bolton, this would have beenĀ  Bolton’s second goal and it would have taken the game out of the Gunners reach. The Gunners bounced back in the later part of the game to earn a replay in the Reebok stadium against their Bogey team Bolton.
